Villa Blankenese

In the course of the heritage-sensitive restoration of a stately villa in the historic district of Blankenese in Hamburg, an extraordinary staircase was created, spanning four floors. Particularly noteworthy are the coffered, deeply profiled risers, evoking the refined wood paneling of traditional gentlemen’s lounges. The balustrade features fluted decorative mouldings paired with Gothic-inspired arches — a design homage to medieval ecclesiastical architecture, reinterpreted through delicate artisanal woodwork. What began in 2021 with an initial inquiry reached its architectural completion in 2023 — set against the tranquil elegance of Blankenese, where Hanseatic understatement artisanal mastery converge to form a cohesive work of art. A project that illustrates the expressive potential inherent in a single staircase.
